What is a sheitel?
A sheitel is the Yiddish word for the wig worn by married Jewish women, and a sheitel macher is the person who makes and fits it. That is my work: I sew wigs to measure, and I look after them afterwards.
How much does a custom wig cost?
A wig sewn from scratch to your measurements starts at ₪10,000. The upper limit cannot be named in advance: the price rests on the hair — its colour, type, length and quality.
A ready-made wig that needs only finishing — the hairline, small adjustments — starts at ₪8,000.
Partial pieces cost less: a topper ₪2,800–3,800, a ponytail ₪1,100–2,600, a fringe ₪1,200–1,800.
How long does it take to make a wig?
It depends on what we are sewing and where the hair comes from. When the right hair is already here it is noticeably faster; when it has to be sourced, ordered and waited for, it takes longer. I give you the exact timing when we meet, once we know the hair, the length and the cap.
What hair do you use?
Natural hair only — I do not sew synthetic. Within natural hair there are different grades, and I match the grade to your budget: from premium to simpler hair that also wears well and looks dignified. I explain the difference between grades when we meet.
Can you make a wig from my own hair?
Yes. It takes roughly 120–150 grams of hair, depending on the length you want. One ponytail is usually not enough, but the rest can be sourced and matched for colour and texture. There are many details here, so it is easier to talk them through by phone or in person.
How often should a human hair wig be washed, and with what?
A wig is not washed the way your own hair is, and that is the main thing to understand. Your own hair feeds from the scalp and repairs itself; the hair in a wig does not. Wrong care does not wash out with time — it stays with the piece.
The frequency and the products depend on the cap and on the type of hair, so I match them to the particular wig. I teach this properly in a separate lesson, showing with my hands rather than in words.
How much does wig styling cost?
Styling starts at ₪180, and the price depends on the length of the hair, the amount of work and how complex it is. A hairstyle for an occasion is counted separately — that is different work, not everyday styling. A wig haircut starts at ₪200 and depends on the shape you want; colouring starts at ₪350 and depends on the amount of work.
How long does a wig last?
It depends on the piece and on how it is worn. A wig on a skin base, treated gently and serviced regularly, lasts a very long time — years. Lace lasts noticeably less, and in the Israeli climate especially: heat and sun speed up the wear. When we meet I tell you what to expect from the piece you are choosing, and how to care for it so that it lasts.
Do you repair wigs bought elsewhere?
Yes, I repair wigs from any maker. The price depends on the kind of damage and its size: a small hole in the lace from ₪300, filling hair back into the lace from ₪450, and upwards with the amount of work. There are many kinds of alteration, so I name the exact price once I have the piece in my hands.
